How Sales Tactics Can Help You Land Interviews

If there’s one thing I learned from working with a bunch of revenue professionals in 2022, it’s that EVERYONE has something to learn from sales.

If you’ve never read it, I highly recommend Daniel Pink’s To Sell is Human. The book changed the way that I think about sales. Before, I was one of those people who dreaded talking to a salesperson and said things like, “I don’t want to be sales-y.” After, I know that the truth is: we ALL sell all the time. Or, said another way, we all can benefit from honing the knowledge and skills that top salespeople use to close big deals.


At the end of the day, the psychological principles and relational dynamics that underpin effective sales are the same we use in fields like learning design, human relations, customer service, and more. And the same diligent, practical methodologies that the best salespeople use to source deals can be used on something as (unfortunately) ubiquitous as job searching.


Jeff and I first met Jahleane Dolne while working together last year. Jahleane was a rockstar account executive who seemed destined for great things. She’s a TikTok Creator, a coach, and her career and personal development-focused work has led to her speaking to groups like the NYC Dept of Education and The National Sales Network, and having appearances in online media publications like Afrotech, LinkedIn News, xoNecole, and The New York Times.
